A decade ago, driven by a passion for innovation, this adaptable changemaker transitioned from the Tech and Financial sector to the AgriTech arena, leveraging their commercial prowess to make a dynamic impact.

A passion for innovation has been the driving force behind this adaptable changemaker’s decision 10 years ago to transfer their proven commercial skills in the Tech and Financial sector to make a dynamic impact in the AgriTech arena.

This radical change in career had its conception during a sabbatical in Africa in 2008 with the emergence of a deep desire to work for a purpose led organisation, and the growing realisation that their commercial awareness, experience and skills would readily transfer to this new, exciting growth area.

Pursuing a rigorous and varied academic career had rewarded them with an initial business degree, followed by chartered accountancy training and an MBA in Advanced Farm Management. On completion of the MBA they joined an ambitious, well-funded start-up, focusing on bringing together the disparate data in agriculture and the food chain for the benefit of Farmers and wider stakeholders.

In the early stages of development, his role in the business focused on product management, managing a small team of analysts and delivering presentations of global agricultural financial returns to a range of stakeholders interested in the sector. With an ability to work independently and by paying close attention to detail they seized the opportunity to build and manage high-performing teams capable of delivering maximum returns for their clients.

As the business continued to grow both through acquisition and organically, the role for this astute market-aware professional evolved to offer more of a sales and sales management emphasis including formulating go-to-market strategies, engaging with the marketing teams and presenting to clients and wider forums. The business currently employs 90 people and has commercial operations across the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

The client approach he established was predominantly consultancy led, offering expertise in the understanding of the AgriFood supply chain, identifying marketing strategies, maximising financial returns, managing risk and fostering farmer engagement.

This expertise, integrity and commercial acumen afforded him access to various industry forums where they are considered to be a subject matter expert. They have earned a solid reputation for in-depth know-how on matters such as sustainability and the measurement of Scope 3 emissions and it is these areas that have driven many of the client conversations in the past 3 years.

With his experience gained to date, and established network he’s now looking for the next step in his career.
