Beanstalk Global /AHDB Talking Leaders Series: Ian Ayling – Grounds Manager at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.

We know how important it is to be inspired by both big businesses and individuals, which is why we are excited to present Talking Leaders, a monthly initiative from the AHDB which will see a series of inspirational speakers share their life experiences and deliver impactful stories to the AgriLeader community.

Coming up in the June episode of Talking Leaders, we’re live from the iconic home of England Rugby – Allianz Stadium, Twickenham – with special guest Ian Ayling, Grounds Manager and long-time steward of this hallowed turf.

Ian has devoted the last 27 years of his career to the care and precision of Twickenham’s grounds – a passion that runs deep in his family. With his grandfather, father, and brother all having worked in the turf industry, Ian’s path was almost destined from the start.

He left school at 16 and began his journey at Harrow School, tending to the cricket grounds. By 17, he was at Uxbridge Cricket Club, where he spent a decade sharpening his craft. In 1997, his career took him to Hong Kong for a year, before returning to the UK to join the team at Twickenham, working under the RFU, where he continues to ensure the pitch is always in pristine, match-ready condition.

In this special pitchside broadcast, we’ll not only explore the meticulous detail and pride that goes into preparing a world-class playing surface, but also dive into Ian’s approach to leadership, teamwork, and how to get the best out of a high-performance crew.

Don’t miss this unique behind-the-scenes look at one of rugby’s most iconic venues – and the leader who helps keep it at its best.
