There are plenty of events that talk about farming.
There are far fewer that allow people to get their hands in the soil, meet the people producing their food, learn directly from experts and then sit down together to enjoy the results.

That was exactly the thinking behind Soil to Feast, a unique event hosted at Shimpling Park Farm in Suffolk that set out to celebrate the connection between soil, farming and food in a way that was engaging, educational and accessible for people of all ages. The event was designed as an immersive journey, taking participants from the soil beneath their feet through to the food on their plates.
Beanstalk.Global was delighted to attend and provide both photography and video coverage of the day.

From Soil to Supper
Hosted by organic farmers John and Alice Pawsey and the team at Shimpling Park Farm, the event brought together an impressive range of experts, educators, growers, bakers, chefs and storytellers to help visitors better understand the vital role that healthy soils play in food production.
Throughout the afternoon, guests rotated through a series of interactive experiences, including:
- Exploring soil health and biology
- Learning about compost and sustainable growing systems
- Understanding organic farming practices
- Discovering the journey from field to plate
- Participating in food preparation and cooking activities
- Meeting the people working throughout the food and farming system
The day culminated in a communal outdoor feast featuring produce sourced from the farm, the vegetable garden and local East Anglian growers.

Real Conversations Around Food Production
One of the most refreshing aspects of the event was its ability to bring together farming and non-farming audiences in a relaxed and engaging environment.
Rather than focusing on presentations or technical discussions, Soil to Feast encouraged curiosity, conversation and participation.
Visitors were able to ask questions, challenge assumptions and gain a greater understanding of the work that goes into producing food sustainably.

At a time when the connection between consumers and food production can often feel increasingly distant, events such as this play an important role in helping bridge that gap.
Congratulations to everyone involved in organising what was a highly original, educational and enjoyable event.
