Beanstalk Global & The PMA in South Africa – The Berry Industry.

The Produce Marketing Association is a key International trade organisation representing companies from every segment of the global fresh produce and floral supply chain. The PMA helps members grow by providing connections that expand business opportunities and increase sales and consumption. Their mission is to connect, inform and deliver industry solutions to enhance their members’ prosperity.

Each month, we will be focusing on a major area of South African fresh produce and discussing that all with the country’s key industry experts so we can learn and appreciate fantastic South African Fresh Produce. This month it’s Berries!

Joining  Lianne Jones – Country Manager Southern Africa, PMA, will be number of key industry experts.

Wian Mouton – Commercial Manager, Fall Creek Farm & Nursery. Wian is currently the Commercial Manager at Fall Creek South Africa. After graduating from Stellenbosch University in 2007 University, he began working in the wine industry in South Africa and abroad before joining a Spanish company that specialises in the development of new table grape varieties. His role was to support growers across South Africa to adopt new varieties and grow them successfully.  Whilst in this position, Wian was exposed to plant variety rights and management, the distribution and protection of plant material and commercialisation of new varieties.  He then joined Fall Creek early in 2020 and, as the leader of the commercial and technical team, his aim is to introduce Fall Creek and its variety and plant offering to the Southern African industry as well as support their customers with technical advice.

Rouxan Jansen van Rensburg – Core Fruit. Rouxan completed his BCom Honours degree at Stellenbosch University in 2006. He currently works as a Business Unit Manager at Core Fruit where he heads up the blueberry team.  He has been working in the fruit industry for the past 14 years, 11 of which have been at Core Fruit.  Core recently got involved in Blueberries where they see huge potential to grow the business with new genetics and better varieties.

Louw Pienaar – BFAP. Louw completed his Masters in Agricultural Economics at Stellenbosch University in 2013. He worked at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture as Deputy Director, leading an economic research unit doing applied research in macro and resource economics. His area of expertise is in agricultural value chains and alternative fruits, as well as international trade dynamics. He is presently a Senior Analyst at BFAP (Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy.

Elzette Schutte – Berries ZA Manager. Elzette has been the Operational Manager of Berries ZA since 2017. She began working in the Fruit Export industry in 2006 upon her return from completing her Masters Degree in Horticultural Sciences at Michigan State University in the USA . Elzette loves the blueberry industry especially the excitement and the fast pace of it.
