In our fourth Broadcast we will be speaking to a number of leading experts on the avocado sector. 

Trevor Dukes, CEO of The Fruit Farm Group SA (TFFGSA). Trevor’s career path to date has led to 29 years of experience in the agriculture sector, both as an entrepreneur and within corporate multinationals, and an in-depth knowledge of the industry throughout the supply chain – from production to processing to sales and everything in between.  Trevor has served on numerous boards within the industry including, Subtrop and SAAGA (South African Avocado Growers Association, Fresh Produce Exporters Forum, World Avocado Organization, Produce Marketing Association (PMA) board member and PMA SA chairman.

Lindie Stroebel is the Southern Africa Country Manager at Mission Produce (“Mission”) the world leader in sourcing, producing, and distributing fresh Hass avocados. She is responsible for establishing Mission’s footprint in South Africa,as a growing country, in partnership with Mission’s South Africa partners, ZZ2 and Core Fruit. She oversees the distribution of South African avocados, fulfilling Mission’s purpose to provide beautiful, ripe avocados year-round.

Lindie joins Mission following 4 years with the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) in Southern Africa. As the General Manager, she was tasked with unlocking the value proposition PMA extended to its members in the region, as well as serving as a thought leader in the South African fresh produce sector. She worked as an industry reference, connecting the local industry with local and global connections in trade, information and trends.  Lindie is also the founder and owner of the strategic advising company, Fresh Strategic Focus.

Clive Garrett is the Marketing Manager of ZZ2. ZZ2 is a farming conglomerate based in South Africa producing tomatoes, avocados, onions, apples, pears, cherries, almonds, dates and blueberries. It also has a sizable herd of cattle. His responsibilities include all facets of Marketing such as relationship management, brand building, promotions, packaging and marketing material design. He is a chartered accountant by training. His outside interest is cycling. He is currently the Chairman of the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB) and has just been appointed as the Chairman of the South African Avocado Growers Association (SAAGA) and also serves as a director of the World Avocado Organisation (WAO). He serves as a director of the Tomato Producers Organisation (TPO) and is a member of the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP).

Derek Donkin is the Chief Executive of the South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop), which manages the affairs of the SA Avocado, Mango and Litchi Growers’ Associations. He has extensive knowledge of the avocado industry having worked for the industry association in technical and management positions for over two decades.

Roger Armitage  is Managing Director at Hall Fresh Produce in South Africa. He is an Agricultural Economist with broad commercial experience gained from various production and development finance roles in the agricultural sector. After four years of working in London, Roger joined the SA Cane Growers’ Association in 2002 as the Regional Manager of the Tugela area on the KZN North Coast, and in 2005 moved to the head-office in Mt. Edgecombe as Director of Economic Services. In 2013 Roger was tasked with establishing and leading a second Company, TSGRO Farming Services, which is a support service provider to land reform farmers in Nkomazi. He has been with the Halls Group since mid 2020.
