With the outbreak of the Coronavirus in November 2019 in China, the South African fresh produce industry finds itself in uncharted waters. What seemed to be something afar has now fundamentally changed the South Africa fresh sector industry, the markets around the globe and how we all conduct business.
Things have fundamentally changed – from orchard level and pre and post-production inputs to the people who consume fruit. South African Growers have had to find new and innovative ways of procuring input materials, managing the wellbeing and health of workers, logistics, payments and cash flow as well as new consumer behaviour. The sector will have to adjust thinking and working methods quickly and maybe for the long term.
We talk to a number of experts from the South Africa Fresh Produce sectors to find out how they are looking to create long term positives from the current situation.
